WESTWOOD DAY 3

KING ABDULLA ECONOMIC CITY, Saudi Arabia: Lee Westwood fired the lowest round of his season to lift the mood at the Majesticks GC in the final round of LIV Golf Jeddah presented by ROSHN.

The Majesticks Co-Captain was finally rewarded for his solid play this week at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club as he fired a bogey-free seven-under 63, which elevated him to tied 17th place.

Also without any blemish on his card was Henrik Stenson, who made four birdies in his 66 to finish tied 35th at four-under par. Ian Poulter was 2-under for the final round, which was matched by Sam Horsfield.

Westwood’s best round in the 2023 LIV Golf season were a couple of five-under pars (in Orlando and Greenbrier). This was only his third top-20 finish of the season, in which he also struggled with injuries.

“I’ve not really played great all season but kind of persevered and I feel that the swing is starting to feel good. I hit a lot of good shots out there and actually played all right throughout the week without getting anything going,” said Westwood.

“Today, I drove it good, putted nicely and I hit my shots close. So, I think that the game is trending in the right direction. I am looking forward to Miami next week.”

Westwood turned 50 earlier this year on April 24, and said he was proud of the way he coped with the heat in Jeddah despite his age.

“The thing I’m most proud of is my fitness. You know 50 years of age now and these are pretty tough, testing conditions. You got the young lads coming in panting and puffing and looking like they’ve been through an ordeal and I feel like I can play a couple more holes,” said Westwood.

“So, obviously, I am in good shape and that’s something I’ll work on more in the offseason and I look forward to coming out next year playing like this. I hope to be a bit better next year than this year.”
