Majesticks GC co-captain Lee Westwood attended Education Mutual’s EdFest 2023 in Durham today, taking part in a Q&A session with 120 headteachers and Academy CEO’s. Lee talked through his career including reaching the top of the Official Golf World Rankings and his Ryder Cup exploits. In addition, he took the opportunity to share the team’s Little Sticks programme and invited school leaders to sign-up to be apart of the initiative in 2024.

Lee said “It is great to attend the conference today and be able to speak to school leaders across the country. Educators face many challenges and it’s great to be able to showcase our Little Sticks programme as an opportunity to support young people’s development and using golf as a vehicle to do that”.

Nick Hurn, Chair of Education Mutual, highlighted how important it is for a sport franchise to focus on giving back to the community: “It’s fantastic to have Lee Westwood at our conference. A stalwart figure within British sport for decades, Lee has been able to share his experiences with our network and I’m sure school leaders will have plenty to take away from his Q&A. It’s great to learn about Majesticks GC’s Little Sticks programme and we support their efforts in using golf to develop young people’s lives. We will actively support their programme by connecting them with our vast network of schools, as we see the value it can bring to young people.”

Little Sticks is Majesticks GC’s headline community initiative designed to unleash young people’s potential through golf. With a strong emphasis on the development of life skills, the initiative incorporates Majesticks GC’s players as role models and are embedded within the life skills curriculum.

The programme aims to partner with schools and community groups, providing the partner organisations with the training; equipment; resources and mentorship required to embed Little Sticks within their settings.

Currently the programme is being piloted in 5 schools across the UK; with 2024 seeing an expansion in the number of schools and territories which are delivering Little Sticks.

Majesticks GC are proud of the progress made in 2023 to support communities through golf, but it is only the beginning. The team are resolute on achieving their mission of being a winning team and thriving community; making a difference on and off the course.
